Smuggled Goods, Foreign Bodies, and Angel Hair

The Ware & Wissen (Foreign Exchange) exhibition from January–December 2014 in the Weltkulturen Museum took a critical look at the history of ethnological research dealing with the fascination of the “Other”. The exhibition focused on the key areas of money, goods, consumerism and knowledge – all things which similarly play a major role in our everyday lives.

The Weltkulturen Museum offered interested visitors the chance to actively and critically engage with the exhibition, and have their voices, positions and views flow into it as a commentary.

The results of this intensive investigation of the themes were presented as an intervention for one day in the exhibition in November 2014.

Workshop leader: Aline von der Assen, artist and art educator.

The project was realised with the generous support of the Stiftung Polytechnische Gesellschaft.
