TAG DES DENKMALS (Heritage Day)
Guided tour of the eventful history of the museum villas
with Josefine Neef (provenance researcher at the Weltkulturen Museum)
Complex stories lie behind the magnificent Wilhelminian-style façades of the three historic villas of the Weltkulturen Museum. The guided tour provides insights into the construction of the buildings and their former residents. A special focus is placed on the transition from private residences to municipal property and the use of the villas during the Nazi era. The tour with the museum's provenance researcher focuses in particular on the current administration building at Schaumainkai 35.
About this monument
The house at Schaumainkai 35 was built in 1902 by the Scharff-Andreae couple in the Neo-Renaissance style. The family lived there until 1920. After that, the Adler family, who were persecuted during the Nazi era, lived in the house. Luise Adler fled to the United States in 1938 and was forced to sell the house to the city. From 1941 to 1978, the Soziographisches Institut (Sociographic Institute) was housed there. Today, the museum's administration, library and offices are located in Villa 35, which, together with the neighbouring houses, houses the museum.
Registration required by Tuesday, 9 September 2025.
