SHEROES is heading to the Book Fair!

From 7 to 11 October 2026, the Weltkulturen Museum, in collaboration with comic artist Joëlle Epée Mandengue, will be presenting a spin-off of the SHEROES exhibition at the Frankfurt Book Fair. You’ll find us in Hall 04/A76.

On Thursday 8 October, from 9 am to 3 pm, those who have previously visited the ‘Sheroes’ stand can join a drop-in guided tour at the Weltkulturen Library at Schaumainkai 35 and browse through the comics on display there from various countries in Africa, North America, South-East Asia and Germany. Anyone who misses this event can drop by during the library’s regular opening hours: Weltkulturen Bibiothek

And here’s another recommendation from the book fair: on Sunday 11 October, from 1 pm to 2 pm, the Global Stage (Foyer 5.1/6.1 | A1) will host a discussion on ‘African Comics: Decolonising the Image’. The panellists will be Suyru Njoka (Zebra Comics, Cameroon) and Bourahima Zongo (Éditions Grenier, Burkina Faso), moderated by Joëlle Epée Mandengue (comic artist and curator, director of the Bilili BD Festival, Cameroon). The African publishers will discuss key questions with an expert on African comics: How can colonial imagery and traditional narrative patterns be broken down in the medium of comics – and how does this give rise to new perspectives that highlight diversity, self-empowerment and contradiction? The discussion will focus on power dynamics in storytelling: Who tells stories for whom – and under what conditions?
