Pop-up comic exhibition as part of an artist residency with comic makers from Ghana, Kenya, France, Madagascar and Germany
    Δ POP-UP COMIC EXHIBITION

In preparation for the upcoming exhibition ‘SHEROES. Comic Art from Africa', the Weltkulturen Museum is hosting four female comic artists for a several week-long artist residency at the Museumsufer. On Friday, 4 April, from 7 to 9 pm, Charity Atukunda, Reine Dibussi, Akosua Hanson and Catmouse James will give a first insight into their work and present pieces that they created during a comic improv event together with four local artists - Katharina Hantke, Ilknur Koçer, Amelie Persson and Paulina Stulin. The sketches, drawings and short stories by the comic creators from Ghana, Kenya, France, Madagascar and Germany will be on display for two hours in an improvised exhibition at the Weltkulturen Labor. Previously published comics will complement the works created on this day in the Weltkulturen Museum.

There will also be a bar in the Weltkulturen Labor on this evening and the Weltkulturen Library in the neighbouring building, Villa 35, will be open with a varied programme as part of the ‘Night of the Libraries’.

The exhibition ‘SHEROES. Comic Art from Africa’ can be seen at the Weltkulturen Museum from 1 November 2025

Provenance Research Day Tour of the eventful history of the villas of the Weltkulturen Museum

     With Josefine Neef (provenance researcher)

On the occasion of Provenance Research Day on Wednesday, 9 April, the Weltkulturen Museum invites you to a guided tour at 6 pm. Provenance researcher Josefine Neef will show that her research is not only focussed on the origin of the collected objects, but also sheds light on the eventful history of the three historic villas in which the Weltkulturen Museum is located today.

Behind the splendid Gründerzeit façades with their questionable colonial charm lie complex stories. The tour provides insights into how the buildings were constructed, who their former residents were and how the museum has operated since the 1990s. A special focus is placed on the transition from private flats to municipal ownership and the use of the villas during National Socialism. How have the buildings developed since the Weltkulturen Museum moved in, and what challenges and opportunities do they present for the museum today?

    Free of charge.
