‘Exploring the museum depot through film and poetry’

    Film discussion

With Alma Simba (historian and poet)

Using film and poetry, this event explores how we can all better understand and process the enduring legacy of colonialism between Europe and Africa. Historian and poet Alma Simba also aims to highlight the role of culture and media. The group will discuss the importance of knowing this history. How can the conflict-ridden history of European museum collections, which include African cultural artefacts, be addressed? The films shown explore colonial expeditions and practices, with a focus on Tanzania, through which thousands of cultural artefacts and human remains found their way into European museum collections.

‘Weaving Sisters: From Popular Fairy Tales to Zine Collages’ Zine Workshop With Park Hye-in and Sakhile Matlhare (curators and researchers)
    Δ ZINE WORKSHOP

‘Weaving Sisters: From Popular Fairy Tales to Zine Collages’ Zine Workshop With Park Hye-in and Sakhile Matlhare (curators and researchers)

The workshop ‘Weaving Sisters: From Folktales to Paper Collage Zine’ combines storytelling with zine collages, collective work and knowledge exchange with the creative process of zine design. The focus is on female labour as a form of self-determination through collaborative creation. By creating zines that combine images, texts and materials, the workshop focuses on sharing and networking ideas, stories and skills. At the same time, it creates space for reflection and shared responsibility. The title is inspired by ancient weaving traditions described in popular fairy tales and religions. In these stories, weaving symbolises skills associated with the development of armour and explores the concepts of self-liberation, self-determination and camaraderie. During this three-hour workshop, the group will draw, write, sew and share stories about female labour, love and liberation. Everyone will receive a copy of the jointly created zine.

    For young people and adults.
In English. Free of charge, materials and tools are provided on site.
