WAYS - Towards Fair and Sustainable International Partnerships

Description: As part of the “WAYS - Towards Fair and Sustainable International Partnerships” programme run by the German Federal Cultural Foundation, the Weltkulturen Museum is reconnecting a collection of drawings that have been in its care since 1988. The drawings originate from the Panambi indigenous territory of the Kaiowá, which is now located in Brazil. They were produced in 1949–50 for the Brazilian anthropologist Egon Schaden and depict the Brazilian state’s incursion into Kaiowá territory and the Kaiowá people’s ritual resistance to the invasion. As part of this collaborative project, the drawings are to be reconnected with their place of origin, thereby serving as a starting point for new forms of artistic collaboration.
